Thor Issue 801 Review: Sigurd's Epic Quest Into Hel

Thor Issue 801 is finally here from Marvel Comics, bringing us another huge chapter in this legendary story. Written by Al Ewing with art by Pasqual Ferry, colors by Matt Milla, and letters by Joe Sabino, this issue follows Sigurd Jarlsen on a dangerous mission inside Hel. He wants to bring Thor back to life, but getting there means facing armies of the undead with nothing special except his courage and a simple hammer on a chain.

The story is fantastic for longtime followers, though newcomers might feel a bit lost due to the heavy exposition. Once Sigurd enters the Asgardian underworld, the pace shoots up immediately. He takes a severe beating, yet he keeps fighting without an ounce of fear. Writer Al Ewing does a wonderful job showing why Sigurd makes such a great hero, especially while dealing with power plays from Karnilla, who is trying to claim dominance over Hel.

Pasqual Ferry's artwork shines brightly on every page. The fight scenes are physical, bloody, and full of gritty impacts like hammer swings and headbutts. Matt Milla's colors give each magical plane its own distinct mood, shifting from deep blues to striking sea greens. Sigurd's plain clothes stand out nicely against the decay, reminding everyone he is just a normal human fighting with pure heart.
