Tank Chair Episode 1: The Wheelchair Hitman Makes a Wild Debut

Tank Chair has arrived, and it brings a premise we rarely see in anime. The story follows Nagi Taira, a legendary hitman who currently lives in a vegetative state. Nagi only wakes up when he senses killing intent, allowing his sister Shizuka to take on dangerous jobs as a strange form of rehabilitation. Watching a protagonist navigate a gritty, criminal underworld from a custom wheelchair is certainly a fresh change of pace for the season.

From a visual standpoint, the episode uses 3D CG animation by Polygon Pictures that actually flows quite well. The combat is fast and brutal, with Nagi using a skeletal, armored wheelchair equipped with blades and spikes. The fight scenes are the clear highlight here, featuring impressive motion and a unique style, even if the choice to make the blood pink feels a little eccentric.

While the action is high quality, the storytelling is still finding its footing. The first episode is light on world building and character history, leaving us with plenty of questions about how the siblings ended up in this situation. It does not provide a deep plot just yet, but it offers a fun and stylish introduction to a very unusual hero.
