World of Warcraft is coming to Dungeons and Dragons

Wizards of the Coast shared some huge news at Gen Con 2026. They are officially partnering with Blizzard to bring World of Warcraft into the Dungeons and Dragons 5.5 Edition ruleset. This massive project, titled D&D: World of Warcraft, focuses on bringing the iconic locations and lore of Azeroth to your tabletop game nights.

The team clarified that they are focusing on smooth tabletop mechanics rather than just copying MMO systems. You will not have to deal with endless grinding, corpse runs, or mana bars. Instead, the book provides tools for DMs to run campaigns across Azeroth, including three pre made adventures based on major moments from the game history. Fans can expect classic dungeons like the Deadmines and Scarlet Monastery, which have been adjusted to work perfectly for a tabletop party.

Character progression and gear are getting a tabletop makeover as well. Iconic loot like the Warglaives of Azzinoth will be available, but the system relies on curated drop tables rather than random numbers. Even professions have been adapted to fit a pen and paper style. Alchemists can use their skills to help allies regain spell slots, and blacksmiths can craft special gear using unique recipes provided in the book.

One of the best parts is the flexibility offered to players and DMs. You can choose to play out the classic Alliance and Horde rivalry or ignore it entirely to build a party that mixes both factions. If your favorite dungeon or monster is not featured in the initial release, the book also includes a guide to help you homebrew your own content using the same design philosophy. This expansion arrives later this year, giving fans a fresh way to experience their favorite fantasy world.
