Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft Forever as a New Series Pillar

Blizzard just revealed World of Warcraft Forever, a massive addition to the MMO that stands as a third pillar alongside the existing Modern and Classic versions. This project aims to capture the spirit of original gameplay while integrating modern technical improvements and plenty of new content. During a hands on preview, we sampled a new race called the Skyborne and a massive dungeon called The Drowned City.

The combat in this version is intentionally slow and methodical. Testing a dungeon, our group quickly learned that pulling too many enemies at once leads to quick wipes. The Drowned City is vast, filled with hidden nooks and secrets that reward careful exploration. Without an in game map, the sense of discovery felt reminiscent of old school experiences, while updated lighting and water effects made the environment look incredible.

We also tested the new Skyborne starting zone using the built in controller support. It worked surprisingly well, making the experience feel fresh and accessible. Players will find plenty of modern quality of life tools, such as HUD editing and a built in damage meter, which provide a customized experience out of the box. Whether you are a veteran or a newcomer, the focus here is on intentional, thoughtful progression.

Blizzard is positioning this as a long term project rather than a temporary seasonal event. With new racial abilities to master and a design philosophy that values the journey, World of Warcraft Forever is shaping up to be a unique way to enjoy the series. We are looking forward to seeing how these systems hold up as more content is released.
