Why Live Action Anime Adaptations Are Still Rare in Hollywood
One Piece showrunner Steven Maeda explains why Hollywood is struggling to fund more live action anime shows.
★ 9.1manhwa.newsNetflix proved that live action anime can work with the massive success of One Piece. Fans hoped this would lead to a steady stream of new adaptations from Japan. Executive producer Steven Maeda recently shared his thoughts at the Tokyo International Film Festival Content Market about why that boom has not happened yet.
Maeda pointed out that the main obstacle is the very high cost of bringing these complex stories to the screen. Hollywood is also facing ongoing financial challenges right now. Studios are hesitant to invest large budgets into new properties unless they are absolute certainties, making it tough for promising manga and manhwa projects to get a green light.
Even though the path forward is difficult, the massive global love for series like One Piece keeps hope alive. Fans are still eager to see their favorite 2D adventures brought into live action. Only time will tell if studios can find smarter ways to fund these ambitious projects in the future.
