The Last Footage Struggles Despite Innovative Smart Glasses Tech

The Last Footage made its debut at the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival as a notable entry from Myanmar. Director Arkar Soe Oo attempts to shake up the found footage genre by filming the entire movie through 4K smart glasses. This creative choice gives the film a distinct visual style, especially when the story hits the creepy Wingabar Forest at night. The use of lighting and color during these nighttime sequences is genuinely impressive and adds a chilling atmosphere to the supernatural events on screen.

However, the movie runs into trouble with its character development and dialogue. The cast is simply too large, and most of them feel like walking cliches rather than real people. Because we never truly connect with these characters, the tension often feels hollow once the group faces danger in the woods. The script relies on heavy exposition and constant crosstalk, which slows down the pacing and makes the middle of the film feel muddy.

Even with these flaws, the film shows glimpses of what Arkar Soe Oo can achieve as a filmmaker. The final moments are surprisingly sad, hinting at a much stronger emotional core that could have existed with a tighter script.
