Review: Verity Movie Is A Deliciously Campy Thrill Ride

Fans of psychological thrillers have a new movie to talk about. The 2026 film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel Verity is now playing in theaters. Directed by Michael Showalter, the movie leans hard into its own silliness, giving audiences a campy and wildly entertaining ride.

The story follows a struggling author named Lowen, played by Dakota Johnson. After a tragedy and a bizarre meeting with a bloody pedestrian, Lowen gets a life changing offer from Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett. Jeremy wants Lowen to finish the popular book series written by his wife Verity, who is paralyzed and unable to write following a mysterious car accident.

Things get dark and strange very quickly when Lowen moves into the Crawford home and finds a hidden autobiography written by Verity. Anne Hathaway shines in the role of Verity, playing multiple layers of a truly vicious character. Critics point out that the movie is most fun when it completely embraces its chaotic energy and dramatic score, even if some of the plot details do not hold up to close logic.

If you want a movie you can just sit back and enjoy without overthinking, this adaptation fits the bill. Grab your tickets and check it out in theaters now to see how the twisted mystery plays out on the big screen.
