Path of Exile Creator Questions Diablo 5 Spring 2029 Release Date

Blizzard recently surprised fans at BlizzCon 2026 by officially announcing Diablo 5 and setting a target release window for Spring 2029. The upcoming sequel promises a dark story where players enter a version of Sanctuary where the main villain, Diablo, has already won the war. Fans are thrilled to see the franchise move forward so soon, but industry veterans are looking at the timeline with caution.

Chris Wilson, co creator of the rival action role playing game Path of Exile, shared his thoughts in a recent YouTube video. He pointed out that a roughly three year development timeframe is extremely tight for a massive project of this scale. Building a deep, polished action role playing game usually takes much longer, especially when crafting a brand new story and massive open areas for players to explore.

Whether Blizzard can actually hit this ambitious target remains to be seen. Game development is notoriously unpredictable, and delays are common in the industry. For now, fans can only wait and hope that the team delivers a worthy successor without rushing the final product.
