Nintendo Wins $4.5 Million Lawsuit Against Switch Pirate

Nintendo of America just secured a massive win in its ongoing battle against piracy. A U.S. District Court judge recently ordered James C. Williams, known online as Archbox, to pay $4.5 million for his role in distributing unauthorized copies of Switch games.

The case originally started back in June 2024 when Nintendo identified Williams as the operator of several online shops that hosted pirated software. The court ruled in Nintendo's favor after the defendant failed to respond to the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment.

Beyond the financial penalty, the court issued a permanent injunction against Williams. This order effectively bans him from running similar operations in the future. It is a significant step for the company as it continues to take firm action against those who distribute its intellectual property without permission.
