Nintendo Tested Switch 2 GameChat Back in 2020

Nintendo just shared some cool behind the scenes details about the development of GameChat, the new communication feature built for the Nintendo Switch 2. According to a recent developer update, work on Switch 2 features actually started way back in 2020. This means the team was planning the next generation years before the console finally hit the market.

What makes this story really neat is how the feature came to life. Nintendo did not just start coding on new hardware right away. The team first experimented with the GameChat concept on regular computers. After that, they built a special prototype using the original Nintendo Switch hardware to test how players might chat on the go.

Fans love getting a peek at how game hardware gets made behind closed doors. Knowing that Nintendo spent years polishing this system shows how much care went into the new console. We will have to wait and see what other fun hardware secrets Nintendo decides to share next.
