MTG Arena is saying goodbye to the Alchemy format
Wizards of the Coast is retiring the digital only Alchemy format on MTG Arena, with complete removal scheduled for February 2027.
manhwa.newsBig changes are coming to MTG Arena as the development team announces the retirement of the digital only Alchemy format. The upcoming Alchemy cards for Reality Fracture will serve as the final set release for the mode. When Standard rotates in February 2027, Alchemy will be completely removed from the game.
Introduced back in 2021, Alchemy brought digital only mechanics to Magic: The Gathering by creating cards that could generate specific items, shuffle them into decks, and track permanent modifications. While many veteran players initially pushed back against the format, it built a dedicated fanbase over the years. The team now wants to shift full attention toward popular formats like Standard, Pioneer, and Brawl.
Players still have time to enjoy the format before it disappears completely. On September 22, 2026, all rebalanced cards with tabletop printings will revert to their original versions. Alchemy: Reality Fracture arrives on October 13, 2026, alongside special sendoff events. Finally, the format will exit the client entirely on February 2, 2027.
