In the latest episode of Ghost in the Shell, titled Brain Drain ii, the public and the Japanese government turn against Kusanagi after her recent actions are caught on camera. Section 9 finds itself working under intense pressure as the media frenzy grows. The team must figure out who leaked the footage and why, all while Kusanagi prepares for an impending trial.

The episode shines when it focuses on the internal politics and the social chaos caused by the media. The dialogue during Kusanagi’s trial is a standout, with Maaya Sakamoto delivering a powerful performance that captures the Major's authority. Aramaki also proves his worth as a leader, showing genuine support for his team during this difficult crisis.

However, the fast pace of the episode occasionally works against it. Several major plot points and investigations feel rushed, making important discoveries appear out of nowhere. A notable explosion scene involving Togusa and Batou happens so quickly that it loses much of its intended impact, and the show still struggles to land its comedic moments effectively.

Despite these pacing issues, the episode ends on a high tension cliffhanger that leaves Kusanagi in a precarious spot. Fans of the series will definitely want to see how she escapes this latest trap. You can catch the new episode streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
