Funcom Confirms No In Game Ads in Dune Awakening
Despite pioneering in game advertising over two decades ago, Funcom says its upcoming survival RPG will skip ads entirely.
manhwa.newsFuncom is leaving in game advertisements in the past. Joel Bylos, the chief creative officer for the upcoming survival role playing game Dune Awakening, recently addressed the topic of monetization. He confirmed that the team has no plans to include ads in the new title.
Longtime fans might remember that Funcom actually experimented with real world advertising way back in 2001. Their sci fi massively multiplayer online game Anarchy Online featured futuristic banners where real companies could buy space. Despite trying that model early on, the studio is taking a completely different approach for Arrakis.
Dune Awakening is expanding beyond PC, and players can expect a modern monetization experience without commercial banners breaking the immersion. As the release draws closer, fans are eager to see how the team handles future updates and expansions for this massive sci fi adaptation.
