Final Fantasy Resonance Producer Fought for a Console RPG
The team behind Final Fantasy Resonance originally faced pressure to release a simple mobile port.
manhwa.newsIt turns out Final Fantasy Resonance almost looked like a completely different project. Producer Keisuke Nakashima recently shared that when development first started, executives at Square Enix wanted to turn the title into a simple port of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
Nakashima had a different vision for the project. He pushed back against the mobile port idea because he wanted to create a proper console experience. He pitched the game in late 2020 as a traditional turn based RPG. Crucially, he made it clear that he wanted to remove the gacha mechanics found in the mobile original.
Fans of the franchise will likely appreciate this creative choice. By shifting away from mobile systems, the team was able to focus on delivering a console style story and gameplay flow. We are looking forward to seeing how this vision holds up when the game finally hits consoles.
