Cinder City Brings Sci Fi Seoul Action to Gamescom

Developer Big Fire Games and publisher NC recently showed off their upcoming open world shooter, Cinder City, during Gamescom. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game drops players into a near future Seoul that has fallen to an invasion by the Hyde Group. Players take on the role of Cinderknights, using unique abilities and tactical gear like drones, bikes, and mechs to reclaim the city alongside friends or other players.

During the presentation, the team highlighted the international cast of Cinderknights and explained how the story will unfold. CEO Jaehyun James Bae shared that players will naturally uncover lore for characters like the protagonist, Seven, simply by playing through the main game content rather than relying on external media. The team also addressed the tricky balance of making the game enjoyable for both solo players and full squads, pulling from their past MMO experience to design engaging content for all play styles.

Choosing Seoul as the main setting came down to local familiarity, as the development team wanted to build a city they truly know and understand. While the title does not have a release window just yet, the stunning visuals and mix of sci fi and horror elements have certainly caught the attention of fans. We will have to wait for future updates to see how all these ambitious ideas come together at launch.
