Alan Ritchson Leads the Gritty Revenge Thriller Motor City

Motor City brings us back to 1977 Detroit with a revenge story led by Alan Ritchson. He plays John Miller, a factory worker and veteran who finds his life ruined by a corrupt police officer and a ruthless mobster named Reynolds. After being framed and sent to prison for years, John eventually teams up with his former squadmates to break out and settle the score.

The film leans heavily into the style of 1970s cinema, using a period accurate soundtrack and gritty visuals to set the mood. It also takes a bold approach by keeping dialogue to a minimum. Much of the storytelling relies on the actors using their body language and the action sequences to move the plot forward.

When it comes to the combat, the film shines. The finale offers nearly twenty minutes of non stop, improvised violence that feels earned after the slow buildup. However, the silent approach acts as a double edged sword. While some cast members handle it well, others struggle to convey emotion without lines. This makes the pacing feel off at times, as some quieter scenes drag while waiting for the next big fight.
