The newest update for Wuthering Waves, titled Lamplight in Mirage, Sword in Heart, takes players back to the dangerous Xuanfang Hold. As the Wardens fight to contain the chaos caused by Muyu and his cruel experiments, Rover and the Paragon Qingxiao step up to face the threat head on. While the overall plot follows familiar territory, the expansion manages to impress by putting its well crafted cast front and center.

Qingxiao quickly emerges as a highlight of the game. As a centuries old Cultivator, she is soft spoken yet radiates a calm, calculated power. Kirsty Rider delivers a stunning performance, perfectly capturing Qingxiao's elegance and internal discipline. Even when the story hits predictable tropes, like the hero facing their own dark reflection, the writing team finds fresh ways to keep the experience engaging. The twist during this sequence feels entirely true to Qingxiao's character rather than just a tired cliche.

Supporting characters like the charming trickster Jingran also help keep the energy high. His sly personality is a great contrast to the more reserved Qingxiao, and the inclusion of various cameos from older characters makes the world feel lived in and connected. While some of the attempts at building mystery through characters like Sentinel Hsin still feel a bit heavy handed, the strong character work makes this update worth playing.
