Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is shaping up to be a standout title for 2027. While many Soulslike games trap players in lonely and gray environments, this sequel offers a more colorful and lively take on a Wuxia world. Based on recent hands on time with the game, it feels like a massive step forward for the franchise, combining the best elements of Team Ninja's previous work into one polished experience.

The game introduces an open field design that allows for larger, more varied environments than the first installment. Players can expect to battle across naval battlefields and hazardous islands filled with winding paths. This added space is complemented by new combat options called Insight Skills, which make parrying and aerial attacks feel more satisfying and impactful during intense boss encounters.

One particularly memorable encounter features a boss named Wugu, a terrifying mix of insectoid features. The developers drew inspiration from the Japanese practice of Kodoku, where various insects are placed in a pot to see which one emerges as the strongest. This concept mirrors how the team is pulling the best ideas from their past projects and player feedback to build a refined version of their signature combat style.

With a release date set for March 4, 2027, the team is currently hard at work polishing the experience based on player feedback from their public alpha. Improvements to game performance were already noticeable in the recent demo. If you enjoy challenging parry heavy action, keep this one on your radar as we approach its launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
