The Diplomat Season 4 Review: Political Drama Supremacy

The Diplomat Season 4 picks up right after Ambassador Kate Wyler gets passed up for Vice President. Instead, her husband Hal takes the job from President Grace Penn. After an assassination attempt, President Penn becomes an aggressive hawk, pushing the United States and the UK toward a potential nuclear crisis.

At the center of the chaos is the complicated relationship between Kate and Hal. Fans get to see how their deeply flawed marriage mirrors the fragile political alliances around them. For the first time, Kate has to put real work into saving her marriage and trust Hal to do things his way, even when it gets messy.

While the first half of the season relies heavily on conversations and focuses tightly on Kate and Hal, the sharp writing keeps the momentum going. Allison Janney also shines as President Penn, bringing a terrifying and refreshing energy to the screen. Overall, the new season proves the series still sits at the top of the political drama genre.
