The Callisto Protocol Creator Says Publisher Forced Early Launch
Glen Schofield reveals that pressure from Krafton led to a rushed release for the horror title.
manhwa.newsGlen Schofield, the director behind The Callisto Protocol, recently shared his frustrations regarding the game's difficult launch. In a candid interview, the Dead Space creator explained that his team at Striking Distance Studios was originally aiming for a March 2023 release date. However, publisher Krafton pushed for a December 2022 launch instead.
This decision forced the team to cut their development time short by three months. The timing was particularly difficult due to the ongoing challenges caused by the pandemic, which already made daily operations at the studio complex. Schofield noted that this rush significantly impacted the quality of the final product.
Because the game was not ready, the team had to scramble to fix performance issues and bugs through updates. By the time development finally stabilized, the game had required 86 patches to reach a functional state. This insight gives fans a clearer look at why the title struggled at launch and how studio timelines can affect the final gaming experience.
