Supergirl Issue 16 Kicks Off The Kingdom Of Zod Crossover
Supergirl leads a high stakes mission to El Caldero, but an overcrowded cast makes for a messy start to this new crossover.
manhwa.newsSupergirl Issue 16 marks the start of the Kingdom of Zod crossover event. Kara leads a team of Kryptonians to the island of El Caldero, a dangerous territory made of Kryptonite that has recently fallen under the control of a formidable new villain. It is a significant moment for the series, as it finally bridges the gap between this story and the broader DC Universe.
Writer Sophie Campbell does a great job with the dialogue, particularly when showcasing Supergirl as she tries to step up and lead the group. The internal tension between members of the Super Family, including Superboy and Jon, provides some genuinely exciting moments. Watching these powerful heroes face off against a patient and experienced general like Zod creates a high sense of danger from the very first page.
However, the issue suffers from trying to do too much at once. The cast list is massive, and many of the newcomers feel underdeveloped and confusing for readers who are not caught up on every detail. This crowding carries over into the art, which starts off beautiful but becomes messy and cluttered once the action scenes begin. The facial expressions and panel layouts feel inconsistent during these busier moments.
Despite the visual hiccups, the vibrant colors and clear lettering keep the story readable. If you are already invested in the Super Family, the drama and tactical tension might be enough to keep you hooked. Just be prepared for a very noisy and packed introduction that leaves little room to breathe.
