Stupid Never Dies: Is This Zombie Game Worth Your Time?
GPTRACK50 brings us a chaotic new action roguelite that is equal parts fun and frustrating.
manhwa.newsStupid Never Dies is the first release from developer GPTRACK50. It puts players in the shoes of Davy, a cowardly teenage zombie living in a post apocalyptic world. After accidentally consuming a mystical phoenix egg, Davy gains the power to fight the monster hierarchy. His main motivation is a bit creepy, as he becomes obsessed with reviving the corpse of a girl named Julia. The game is certainly not shy about its juvenile and sometimes unsettling sense of humor.
The gameplay itself is a mix of action and roguelite elements. You move through various biomes, including jungles and frozen tundras, while fighting monsters like werewolves and harpies. A key mechanic involves using Instant Attacks to transform into defeated enemies, which adds some variety to combat. Players also collect permanent upgrades called Body Hacks and run based gear to help survive the dangerous dungeons.
However, the game struggles with pacing and balance. The tutorial is far too long and filled with unnecessary exposition. The roguelite elements are also hit or miss, as much of your success depends on luck rather than pure skill. To make matters more intense, a strict time limit forces you to complete runs quickly. While beating a boss at the last second feels great, the timer often makes failure feel unfair rather than challenging.
If you enjoy fast paced action and do not mind a weird, childish aesthetic, you might find some entertainment here. Just be aware that the uneven design and repetitive nature of the loops make it a tricky recommendation for most players. It is a bold first attempt from a new studio, even if it is not quite a perfect experience.
