Sophia Takes the Lead in A Plague Tale: Resonance

Asobo Studio has returned to its historical fiction series with a brand new title. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy follows Sophia, a character fans will recognize from Requiem. This story takes place before the events of the original game and gives us a look at the painful path that led her to Alicia and Hugo. It is a compelling origin story that makes her role in the later games even more significant.

The game shifts the setting to Italy and Greece, blending medieval history with the myth of the Minotaur. Sophia is haunted by visions of an ancient labyrinth and a hidden beast. After a betrayal leaves her home in ruins, she heads to a mysterious island to find answers. The narrative does a great job of connecting these ancient legends to the series lore we already know, proving the developers can grow this franchise in exciting new directions.

Gameplay has also seen a major change. While the series was once defined by stealth, this entry leans into action and adventure. Sophia is a capable fighter who uses swords, daggers, and agility to survive. The combat system rewards aggression, requiring players to parry, dodge, and use the environment to defeat foes.
