Shinichiro Watanabe Reveals Cowboy Bebop Could Have Lasted Longer
The director of the legendary anime explains how the series could have easily featured more adventures for Spike and the crew.
★ 6.7manhwa.newsDirector Shinichiro Watanabe recently shared some interesting thoughts about the future of Cowboy Bebop. During a special event in Japan to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie, he explained that the show was designed in a way that allows for many more stories.
Watanabe noted that because the series relies on an episodic structure, it is easy to place new tales between existing episodes. He suggested that there were plenty of opportunities to show additional adventures of Spike Spiegel and the rest of the Bebop crew without needing to create a formal sequel or change the original ending.
Fans have long loved the show for its specific style and emotional conclusion. Hearing that the universe was built to handle more stories gives us a fun way to imagine what other missions the crew might have faced during their time together.
While there are no plans for new episodes right now, this insight from the director confirms just how flexible the world of Cowboy Bebop really is. It is a treat for long time fans to hear that the creative team saw so much potential in the gaps of the original run.
