Review: Batman Bad Seeds Streets of Gotham Issue 1 Shines

DC Comics brings us Batman Bad Seeds Streets of Gotham Issue 1, a brand new extended anthology comic written by Matt Fraction and Mariko Tamaki. Instead of focusing solely on the Dark Knight, this issue highlights everyday Gotham citizens trying to survive while killer plants overtake the streets. Readers do not need heavy crossover knowledge to jump right in, making it a super welcoming read for both longtime fans and newcomers.

The story shines by introducing a wonderful lineup of fresh characters, from a thief caught up in a chaotic barbecue to a woman simply trying to get home safely with a child. The Bat Family does make appearances, with Duke Thomas acting as a bright beacon of hope throughout the pages. Fans will love how the writing balances grounded human struggles with the wonderfully weird and dangerous nature of living in Gotham City.

The art style shifts beautifully across the different stories, ranging from cartoony fun to dark and gloomy tones, all tied together by fantastic colors and consistent lettering. It is a heartfelt look at the ordinary people who have to pick up the pieces after heroes save the day. Batman Bad Seeds Streets of Gotham Issue 1 is available now at comic shops everywhere.
