Review: Avengers Armageddon Issue 5 Ends The Event

Avengers Armageddon Issue 5 is finally here, and it brings a very heavy and emotional conclusion to the massive event. Written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz, Frank Alpizar, and Ario Anindito, this final chapter deals with the devastating fallout of a nuclear explosion caused by Colton and the Red Hulk. Instead of a happy victory, the story focuses on broken heroes, shifting allegiances, and a terrified public that now fears and hates anyone with superpowers.

This issue takes a slower approach, letting the characters sit with their trauma and the destruction of the Avengers team. Spider Man brings a personal touch to the massive scale by talking directly with a victim, while Captain Marvel deals with depleted powers and a brand new look. Iron Man is terrified of the future, and Colton undergoes a massive change into a new version of Miracleman. The art team does an incredible job showing these powerful characters brought completely low, using muted colors for casual clothes and vibrant shades for costumes to symbolize fading hope.

While the Age of Heroes faces a harsh reality check, shadowy intelligence organizations step back into the spotlight as public mistrust grows. The Avengers will never be the same after this event, leaving fans with plenty of emotional weight to process. You can grab Avengers Armageddon Issue 5 at comic book shops right now to see how this massive story concludes.
