Remembering Izuru Narushima, Director and Anime Screenwriter

We are sad to report that Japanese director and screenwriter Izuru Narushima has died at the age of 65. News outlets confirmed he passed away from lung cancer on August 24. Narushima was a respected figure in the industry, having worked on many projects throughout his long career.

He started writing for the screen in 1994 and eventually began directing his own films in 2004. He is perhaps best known for his work on the film Rebirth, which is titled Yōkame no Semi in Japan. That film was a huge success at the 35th Japan Academy Film Prize, where it took home ten awards including the honors for Best Picture and Best Director.

For many in the animation community, Narushima is remembered for his work as the screenwriter on the 2000 animated film The Boy Who Saw the Wind. His contributions to both live action cinema and animation have left a lasting mark on Japanese storytelling. He will be remembered for his dedication to his craft and his impact on film history.
