Onslaught Is An Intense and Wild Action Thriller

If you are looking for an action movie that refuses to hold back, Onslaught is exactly what you need. Directed by Adam Wingard, the film centers on a group of deadly super soldiers who escape a secret military compound. These test subjects were created from deceased service members and programmed with one goal, to destroy everything in their path. When their violent rampage reaches a quiet trailer park, it falls to an army veteran named Celeste and her neighbors to fight back and protect their loved ones.

The cast delivers some truly impressive performances. Adria Arjona shines as Celeste, bringing grit and heart to a character who is clearly not just a regular trailer park manager. Reginald VelJohnson is another highlight, bringing both humor and toughness to the role of Josiah. Even Dan Stevens stands out as the eccentric German scientist Dr. Hans Kammler, providing a weirdly effective performance that somehow works perfectly for the tone of the movie.

While the film is an exciting ride, it does have a few shaky moments. The musical score feels like it is pulling from two different genres, shifting between an 80s synth style and a rock country vibe, which can feel jarring at times. Additionally, the film leans into some tired stereotypes when depicting the residents of the trailer park, which feels out of place compared to its more grounded social commentary on the struggles of military veterans.

Despite these small issues, the movie remains a fun and high stakes thriller. It manages to balance intense, unhinged action sequences with genuine themes about government secrecy and the way society often forgets its veterans. If you enjoy over the top action that does not shy away from a messy, bloody conflict, this one is worth a watch.
