Nightwing Issue 142 Review: A High Stakes Race Against Time
Nightwing steps away from Gotham as the Bad Seeds crossover brings dangerous consequences to the streets of Bludhaven.
manhwa.newsNightwing Issue 142 picks up as part four of the Bad Seeds crossover event. While the story moves away from Gotham, the shadow of the crisis still looms over Bludhaven. Dick Grayson tries to stay focused on his own city, but he is quickly pulled into a high stakes chase when a truck carrying a lethal threat heads toward the flora covered ruins of Gotham. It turns into a tense race that forces Nightwing to shift his focus from personal targets to saving innocent lives.
Writer Dan Watters does a great job highlighting what makes Dick Grayson special. Instead of jumping straight into a fight, Nightwing tries to use empathy to reach the antagonist, who is driven more by grief than pure malice. This approach keeps the character feeling grounded and true to his heroic nature, even when he is behind the wheel of his car for much of the issue. The tension remains high throughout the story, leaving readers with an ending that is completely unexpected.
On the visual side, the art is a bit of a mixed bag. Some character facial expressions look off at certain angles, which can be distracting. However, David Lapham excels when drawing the terrifying physical changes of those affected by the spores, and the atmosphere remains consistent throughout. The colors use a dark blue palette that makes the sudden shifts into sickly greens and fiery oranges pop off the page.
This issue proves that the Bad Seeds event is growing into something much bigger than just a Gotham problem. It is a solid look at how the chaos in one city can spread to its neighbors. If you are following the crossover, this is a necessary chapter that shows just how far the disaster is reaching.
