Made in Korea Season 2 Review: Political Thriller or Missed Potential?

Director Woo Min ho brings us back to the tense atmosphere of 1979 in the second season of Made in Korea. Following the assassination of the president, the story centers on the power struggle between the Korean Central Intelligence Agency and the military. Hyun Bin returns as the cold and calculating Baek Kitae, who now finds himself in a high stakes game of cat and mouse against his rival, Jang Geonyoung.

Fans of the series will appreciate how the show grounds its narrative in real history. The portrayal of government corruption, including the unsettling reality of state sponsored crime, remains the strongest part of the experience. It is easy to stay invested because the political backdrop feels authentic and grounded. Hyun Bin delivers a standout performance that carries much of the show, even when the plot beats feel a bit repetitive.

However, the season is not without its flaws. The character writing often feels inconsistent, leaving some of our favorites feeling stagnant or underutilized. While Geonyoung undergoes a major transformation, other key players like Choi Yuji are pushed to the sidelines after promising introductions. The sudden addition of mystical elements through the character Madam Shin also feels out of place and remains largely unexplained.

Ultimately, Made in Korea remains an intense watch that keeps you hooked on its high stakes drama. If you enjoy political thrillers with heavy consequences, it is still a series worth watching. Hopefully, if a third season is confirmed, the creators can tighten up the character arcs and bring more consistency to the ensemble cast.
