Hallowarrior Is A Bloody Good Time With A Few Rough Edges

Hallowarrior takes us to a lonely Halloween night in a world decimated by a mysterious plague. The story follows Pumpkin, played by Milly Shapiro, who is holding onto the last shreds of her past while trying to survive alone. When a group of dangerous raiders disrupts her solitary holiday, the movie shifts into a high stakes fight for her life.

Milly Shapiro is the clear highlight of the film. She brings genuine emotion to a character who is desperate for connection even in the worst circumstances. Alongside her, Ajani Russell and Shannyn Sossamon turn in great performances, especially Sossamon, who brings a chilling energy to the role of the group leader.

Fans of practical effects will find plenty to love here. The gore is messy and visceral, providing the kind of nasty thrills that horror fans crave. While the visual side of the production is impressive, the script feels a bit thin. The story skips over some important details about Pumpkin and her history, which leaves the plot feeling incomplete at times.

While the movie falters with its pacing and some missed opportunities in the home invasion sequences, it remains a fun watch for horror fans. If you can look past the uneven writing, the atmosphere and acting make it worth your time. You can catch the premiere on Shudder starting October 16th.
