7.4manhwa.newsGhost in the Shell episode 3 continues the high stakes pursuit of a fleeing suspect, picking up right where the previous entry left off. The episode aims to push the boundaries of visual storytelling, but the results are a bit of a rollercoaster. While the opening chase scene captures an incredible sense of momentum and freedom as Major Kusanagi maneuvers through the air, the animation quality fluctuates significantly. Some sequences feel unpolished, with jarring shifts in art style that can distract from the action on screen.
Once the chaos of the chase settles, the episode finds its footing by focusing on the core of the series. We get meaningful interactions between Kusanagi and Togusa that help build their characters, alongside some fascinating discussions about AI and the nature of memory. These scenes are handled with a clever, accessible touch, making complex cyberpunk themes easy to follow for any viewer.
Despite these strong narrative beats, the episode does stumble in other areas. Some attempts at humor fall flat and end up undermining the seriousness of the team, particularly with Batou. Additionally, the character designs in the cyber body lab lean into outdated tropes that feel out of place in a modern production. It is a solid entry that highlights the series' potential, even if the uneven visual presentation and odd design choices keep it from hitting its full stride.
