Doctor X: Mafia In White Episodes 1 2 Review
A talented surgeon fights hospital politics with a side of sharp humor in this new medical drama.
manhwa.newsMedical dramas are a staple of television, and Doctor X: Mafia in White is the latest show to take on the genre. Based on the popular Japanese franchise, the story follows Dr. Gye Su jeong, a temporary doctor who is blunt, brilliant, and completely unwilling to follow social rules. When the hospital faces a major staff shortage due to a strike, her skills become essential, even if her personality clashes with everyone around her.
Kim Ji won brings Dr. Gye to life with great comedic timing and a deadpan style that keeps the show from feeling too dark. She is supported by a solid performance from Son Hyeon ju as Director Bu, who acts as a grounded counterweight to the petty rivalries happening elsewhere in the hospital. The show balances intense medical cases with a lighter, sillier tone that gives it a unique feel compared to other hospital dramas.
While the first two episodes have a few clunky moments regarding character dynamics, the show has plenty of potential. It is currently trying to figure out if it wants to be a serious look at gender politics in the workplace or a fun, stylized hero story about a surgical genius. Either way, the performances keep things watchable and engaging.
If you enjoy medical shows with a protagonist who is always the smartest person in the room, this might be your next favorite watch. You can catch new episodes of Doctor X: Mafia in White on Netflix every Friday and Saturday.
