Crimson Moon is the brand new action RPG and roguelike game from developer ProbablyMonsters. The story follows a half human, half angel Nephilim fighting to retake the fallen city of Gildenarch. Players must venture through different districts to recover three Abraxas stones, which contain the souls of dead gods. While the gothic renaissance setting and lore sound exciting, the story takes a backseat and dialogue is sparse, leaving most narrative details feeling thin.

Where the game truly shines is its fast paced combat and loot system. Players collect various weapons and armor pieces during each run, and almost every item actually matters for your build. You can trigger elemental effects, pull off flashy special skills, and fill your rage meter to transform into a powerful angelic form. Dying never feels too punishing because you keep permanent upgrades between runs, and progression relies heavily on true player skill.

Despite the fun gameplay and stunning art style, the game does have some major drawbacks. Players will likely encounter frustrating frame rate drops during busy areas, and the camera can spin out of control during intense boss fights. The side quests also feel a bit simple and bland compared to other titles in the genre.

Crimson Moon officially launches on September 1 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you love action RPGs with roguelike elements and want a fun challenge to share with a friend, this title is definitely worth checking out despite its technical flaws.
